Ilia Topuria is the reigning UFC Lightweight Champion and one of the most dominant fighters in the history of mixed martial arts. Undefeated across 17 professional bouts, he is the current pound-for-pound king of the sport and a two-division UFC world champion.

Born in Germany to Georgian parents and raised in Spain, Topuria built his fighting career in Alicante before earning his UFC contract and rising through the featherweight division with a series of devastating performances. Known by his nickname “El Matador,” Topuria combines elite wrestling, suffocating grappling and one of the most powerful right hands in MMA into a style that has proven impossible to counter at the highest level.

In February 2024, Topuria shocked the world by knocking out the pound-for-pound number one Alexander Volkanovski in the second round at UFC 298, becoming the UFC Featherweight Champion and announcing himself as one of the sport’s all-time greats. He followed that with a third-round stoppage of the legendary Max Holloway at UFC 308, the first knockout loss of Holloway’s career, before vacating the featherweight title to pursue history at lightweight.

At UFC 317 in June 2025, Topuria knocked out Charles Oliveira in just two minutes and 27 seconds, capturing the UFC Lightweight Championship and becoming only the tenth two-division champion in UFC history, all while maintaining a perfect professional record. He has now finished three former world champions by knockout in his last three fights.

In June 2026, Topuria is set to headline the most historic event in UFC history, UFC Freedom 250 at the White House in Washington D.C., where he will defend his lightweight title against interim champion Justin Gaethje on June 14. The fight falls on the 250th anniversary of American Independence Day and marks the first time the UFC has ever held an event at the White House.
