Ilia Topuria in the Oval Office: Trump’s UFC Freedom 250 Press Announcement
Ilia Topuria Stands Beside the President: Inside Trump’s UFC Freedom 250 Oval Office Announcement
On May 6, 2026, our client Ilia Topuria walked into the Oval Office of the White House. What followed was one of the most extraordinary press announcements in the history of combat sports.
Flanked by Topuria, Justin Gaethje, Alex Pereira and Ciryl Gane, President Donald Trump unveiled his plans for UFC Freedom 250, the landmark fight card set for the South Lawn of the White House on June 14. With renderings of the fight stage on display and a specially designed championship belt sitting on the President’s desk, the room carried the unmistakable energy of a moment that will not come around again.

“The Greatest Show on Earth”
Trump showed renderings of the fight stage and left no room for understatement: “June 14, we’re having a big fight. It’s never going to happen again; it’s never happened before. It’s all of the best fighters, the best four fighters standing behind me, all four champions, and it’s going to happen right in front of the White House. This will be the greatest show on Earth.”
Trump also confirmed that upward of 100,000 people will be able to watch the fights in Washington D.C., with eight large screens positioned near the White House. Construction is underway on a roughly 5,000-seat arena to house the Octagon, with an additional 75,000 to 100,000 spectators able to watch from The Ellipse on large screens.
The President made clear where his loyalties lie. “I’m a big sports fan. There are no people tougher in sports than the people behind me. These are the toughest. I know them all,” he said before turning his attention to the main event and singling out Gaethje as the lone American in the room, a moment Topuria seized immediately.
Topuria’s Oval Office Moment
With Topuria standing to Trump’s right alongside Pereira, and their respective opponents to his left, the President began hyping the main event for Topuria’s 155-pound crown. When Trump pointed to Gaethje as the American challenger, Topuria could not resist. “Why you want to give the toughest test to a friend of yours?” he asked the President drawing laughter from the room.
The champion also took a moment to reflect on the gravity of the occasion. “I also want to thank God to give us this beautiful day and to give us the opportunity to experience how it feels to be in our Oval Office. It’s going to be amazing and we want to thank you for this opportunity,” Topuria said. When asked by Trump whether he had complete faith in his ability to win, the answer was vintage Topuria. “I have complete faith. 100%,” he said.
Trump praised Topuria directly in front of the assembled media: “Ilia Topuria, who they say does not get tougher. Very special.”
A Historic Belt for a Historic Night
Atop the President’s desk sat a special UFC title belt designed specifically for the event, featuring the American flag and honouring the country’s upcoming 250th Independence Day. The belt is a symbol of everything this event represents, a collision of sport, history and national celebration unlike anything the UFC has staged before.
The event falls on June 14, Flag Day and Trump’s 80th birthday. It will be broadcast on CBS and Paramount+, bringing the White House lawn into living rooms across the world.
For Ilia Topuria, it was another reminder that his story, undefeated, two-division champion, now welcomed into the Oval Office, is unlike anything combat sports has seen. June 14 is next.
